About
My name is toyah, and alongside my partner John we have been involved in keeping and breeding cornsnakes since 2004. Our main aim is to produce healthy and pleasant pet snakes in beautiful colours and patterns, and along the way learn more about the genetics, husbandry, and life of these amazing creatures. Along the way we have added several other species of snakes to our household, mainly just as pets rather than breeding, but we hope to have a couple of clutches of royal pythons and hognoses in the future alongside the cornsnakes.
We regularly attend breeder meetings and talks held by various clubs and societies throughout the UK - these events are great chances to learn more about our animals, to get to know other snake and reptile owners, and also they're a great opportunity for newcomers to the hobby to be introduced to pet snakes. I am Chair of the Cornsnake foundation and also a member of the Ratsnake Foundation, we are both members of the IHS, and both hold committee positions for the Scottish Exotic Animal Society.
Our breeding focus with all our snakes remembers at all times that they are our pets, and we need to produce animals that are a joy to own. Health and feeding responses are the primary selection factors in deciding which snakes to breed from, to increase the chances of producing offspring which are healthy and feed well. We keep full records of all our snakes so we can check their feed and growth records. Temperament is a part of this - often, very nervous snakes tend to be poor feeders, whilst animals that act in a more confident manner feed and grow well. Once we are satisfied that a snake has acceptable health and condition for breeding, we finally look towards colour and pattern.
As well as the snakes, we also keep and breed mice in a variety of colours and patterns, and have been involved in showing, breeding, and judging fancy rats for the last ten years. We also keep, show, and breed Somali cats. You are more than welcome to contact us to find our more about any of our animals, or just to "talk snakes".
